Vehicle Kit Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
- What is Bluetooth, and what is a Bluetooth Car Kit?
- When I get a car kit, will there be permanent damage, like drill-holes in my dashboard?
- When using a car kit, will my stereo mute itself when someone calls me?
- Does a car kit play the phone sound through my car speakers?
- Could I swap out/transfer a kit from one car to another?
- How does the installation of a car kit affect my vehicle's warranty?
- Bluetooth - What is it?
- Bluetooth is a wireless connection many mobile handsets now have. Bluetooth-enabled car kits are also available, meaning your phone can be linked to the kit without touching it - so you can essentially sit the phone anywhere in your car, even your pocket, and still use it (via the kit) to make calls.
- Will permanent holes be drilled in my dashboard?
- No, there's no need. Cradles are mounted on non-drill brackets, or in some cases only bluetooth button kits are used. In either case, there is no lasting effect. Non-drill brackets can be removed later (by engineer) without causing any damage to the dashboard.
- Will my stereo mute itself when someone calls me?
- This is a standard function of most car kits, however the stereo must have a 'Mute-In' facility in order for it to work.
- Will the phone sound play through my car speakers?
- This is dependent on the stereo fitted to the car. In most cases it requires an additional interface cable, and in a small number of cars it is not possible.
- Can I swap out/transfer a kit from one car to another?
- This is not normally a problem, however the non-drill brackets are vehicle-specific, so a new bracket may be required.
- How will a car kit affect my vehicle warranty?
- It shouldn't - there should be no problems having a professionally fitted car kit installed in your car.
